NOSTALGIA SERIES - DAVID BOWIE HOMAGE
This series emerged after David Bowie released his 2013 nostalgic and engaging single, Where are we now?
We can all relate to "the soundtrack of our lives” where we are immediately transported back to a time and place on hearing a particular piece of music, and Bowie’s much loved music coincided with my life. Some of these paintings reference his years in Germany during the 70’s where he recovered from ill health and he regained his creativity. Other artworks are inspired by his talent and certain songs created over the years.

‘Nostalgia: Personae’ is inspired by David Bowie’s nostalgic song Where are we now?
As in the lyrics of Where are we now? composed by Bowie, this ekphrastic image reveals a moment of reflection and contemplation within the trajectory of his lifetime. The image encourages the viewer to make a connection between his alter egos, inspirations and music.
This artwork was produced before his unexpected death in 2016. Posthumously, the incredible Blackstar album was released using designer Johnathan Barnbrook’s star motifs—a sentimental connection I welcome. However, my star motif within this piece refers back to 1972 when he sang Starman on the UK television show Top of the Pops and everyone watching woke up to the artistry and talent of Bowie….
